Name: Tamina "Tammy" Piniston
Sex: Female
Age: 47
Position: Radio woman
Appearance: The years have been kind to Tamina, she still looks 35 on the average day and 25 when she works at it. She's a Korsain/Nijhro half caste, with pale cream feathers and dark hair streaked with gray. Some suspect that the gray is from age, but she insists that it's natural, and since she never lies--at least not to fellow Shades--most accept that. She has deep brown eyes with just a few "laugh lines" around them, and she smiles often. She is of medium height, about 5'7" or so, and has an average figure.
Attire: Tamina looks like she just came back from a rodeo most of the time. Her "casual" attire is a curious mix between a middle-aged "mother type" and cowgirl. She usually wears blue jeans, a white shirt with a green collar, black leather vest, and tan tennis shoes. She's never without her double-holster, however, and the pistols that go in that holster, even though it's mostly obscured by her vest. On the job, however, she sheds the distinctive clothing and goes instead for a dark gray leggings, a light gray shirt that covers her arms, black boots that go to her knees, and a black eye-mask.
Accent: Altairan Remaican (think Texas drawl)
Personality: Tamina is one of the sweetest, most motherly types one would find anywhere. She shelters and protects all the Shades that are younger than she is (which is just about every one of them), and they all look to her as a mother/counselor. Few if any push her away or are annoyed by her attitude. She never smothers, and the only time she says "Go to your room" she's kidding.
When she goes out she never *ever* goes to houses where there are women or small children, usually robbing rich bachelor pads. It's not unusal for her to drop a part of the money she steals annominously on an orphanage's doorstep.
However, she's got a very tough side and a temper, making her dangerous to cross. Because of her skill with radio, she tunes into police frequencies often, listening for domestic violence calls. When she hears one, she gets to the scene before the cops and gives the attacker, blow for blow and almost bruise for bruise, what he gave his wife and/or children, as well as a severe lecture. Through some tricks that she's learned, her victims can never remember her face, just what she told them.
Thanks to her, police never get repeat calls after her "visits."
She is loyal to a fault, and her temper only seems to come into play when defending her friends. She doesn't take a lot of risks, being more concerned with safety, especially for innocent bystanders. Instead she usually stays back at bases, monitoring police radio transmissions. Because of her, Shade members are never caught--she tells them when the police are after them. She sees this as protecting her fellow Shades and is happiest this way.
History:
Unlike many members of the Shades, Tamina doesn't have a very shocking past. She doesn't come from either a rich family or a poor family, just average income, in an average neighborhood, going to an average school and getting average grades. She wasn't the kid you'd notice at first sight, but she was outstanding in two ways: radio and fighting. She constructed a working short-wave radio when she was only 9, and that set a trend for the rest of her life. She can hack her way onto any wavelenghth, even if it's supposedly a 'private' line. She also distinguished herself in fighting--unfortunately, it was usually on the playground. Even in junior high and high school she had that fierce loyalty to her friends, but she hadn't yet learned the patience to temper it. She earned the nickname "One Punch" because she could knock out virtually any opponent--no matter how much bigger than her they were--with, well, one punch. She was kicked out her three different highschools for fighting on the grounds, though some say that they would have been more leinient if she hadn't sent the entire senior wrestling team packing.
Her teen years were tough, she did have one bright spot--her boyfriend Nester Piniston. Highschool sweethearts married at 18 by the end of five years had three children. Tamina was in her prime, carrying and nuturing her entire family.
But it couldn't last. When she was only 25, Tamina received word that her husband and three young children had been killed by a drunk driver, who first rammed their vehicle then shot into it because Nester had cut in front of him in traffic.
She went into seclusion for months, too brokenup to go on with life. Her house was foreclosed on and she was kicked out into the street. While wandering around, she was approachd by a member of the still-fledging organization the Shades.
Weaponry: Her radio, her pistols, and herself.
Likes: Children, her fellow Shades, protecting others, and vigilante justice.
Dislikes: Abusive people, drinking, and having her help pushed away.
Overheard:
"Hey! Y'all come down from there afore ya hurt yaself, ya hear?"
"Now, now, young'un, you just tell ol' Tammy all about it, we'll work it out."
"Now, this here radio and me, we got back aways, an' I think I know how to work it. So I'd take kindly if ya'd GET T' HECK OUTTA MAH RADIO ROOM!"
